Nuriootpa Retirement Village

Jensen PLUS was engaged by Tanunda Lutheran Home Incorporated to assist with master planning, landscape design and development approval for a new retirement village at Nuriootpa in the Barossa Valley, South Australia.

Through a cross-disciplinary review process, we collaborated closely with the client, architect and engineer to finalise and agree on the master plan, leading to the successful preparation and completion of development approvals and landscape concepts for the project.

Initial stages of the project have been completed and the vision for a high-quality public realm for residents has been realised.

A key feature is the shared street environment without kerbs or barriers, which is enhanced by a distinct material palette for the roads and footpath. Tree planting has been effectively utilised to calm traffic and improve aesthetics.

Civil construction for remaining stages is due for completion in 2024.

Once complete, the resident amenities will include exercise stations, a small playground for visiting families, and several secluded areas for relaxation, all within a linked series of pocket parks.

The larger and more active recreation space around the community centre includes a stormwater swale and detention basins, now vegetated with riparian and amenity plant species, creating a high-quality environmental and landscape design.
