Helping to halve food waste + feed communities
One of our core values is caring. Collectively, our team cares about the people, places, environments and communities in which we work.
Last year, we made a decision to give back to these people, places and communities through a corporate giving commitment, which started with a gift to the Cancer Council to support the programs, activities and facilities available to those staying at the Greenhill Lodge.
This year, our team got together to discuss our giving focus for the coming 12 months and together decided that through our corporate giving, we would support the work of OzHarvest.
“In such a trying time, when cost-of-living is impacting people across all of the communities in which we work, putting food on the table has become such a challenge for many,” says Vicki White, Jensen PLUS Business Manager.
“OzHarvest not only rescues food from going to waste, but uses it to provide nourishing and nutritious food and meals to the people who need it most.”
Every $1 donated to OzHarvest ensures that two meals can be provided to people living in South Australia.
OzHarvest Adelaide’s City Manager, Rachel Hibble, says they are grateful for the support of Jensen PLUS.
“It is incredible to see local business invest into local community, and Jensen PLUS’s contribution has a very tangible outcome. The generosity will see an additional 24,000 meals delivered to South Australians in need this year.”
During 2023 OzHarvest rescued almost 13 million kilograms of food which meant they delivered more than 25 million meals to people across the state.
“We are seeing the demand for food relief greater than ever, with many first-time food relief seekers approaching us for support.
“We are grateful that in addition to the 120 agencies around SA that we deliver nourishing food to, that we can also provide direct assistance to the community through our new free Market in Hindmarsh.”
Rachel adds, “OzHarvest SA is currently delivering approximately 50,000 per week from quality food that would otherwise go to waste”.
“A huge thank you to Jensen PLUS for choosing to make significant impact with us — it means the world!’
The new OzHarvest Market in Hindmarsh provides free rescued produce, pantry staples and cooked meals to people in need based on a ‘take what you need, give if you can’ philosophy.
“Having access to food is a fundamental human need and it’s wonderful that people from all walks of life can go to the OzHarvest Market, with dignity and without judgement, to get what they need,” adds Vicki.
“We are thrilled to support this impactful food rescue and relief program.
“Corporate giving is a great way to engage your team while helping people and communities over the long term.”
