Regenerating the Alice Town Centre
Jensen PLUS is excited to be working with Alice Springs Town Council to create concepts for the Regeneration of the Alice Town Centre.
The project officially launched earlier this week when Jensen PLUS Director, Michael McKeown travelled to Alice Springs with Belinda and Paul from the wider team to undertake some early engagement and place-analysis.
Michael says, “We were pleased to get this exciting project underway with a visit to Alice Springs to talk with more than a dozen business owners and community leaders”.
This initial early consultation exercise provided a valuable opportunity to observe the town centre use and activity during day and night.
“We learned that many of the issues, opportunities and ideas that people shared are common across the stakeholder groups,” says Michael.
“Todd Mall and other public spaces in the town centre are much loved and we heard a lot from locals about the events, activities, and experiences they’d like to see more of in the future.
“There’s a lot of interest in the project with strong views about the Mall in particular, and it’s important that options are explored and tested, and that all views are expressed and listened to.”
The project has three key areas of focus:
- Leichhardt Terrace and riverside activation
- Todd Mall to improve its utilisation
- Hartley Street car park improvements
“We are keen to build on this foundation knowledge by hearing more from the community and local businesses through two online surveys.”
Share your feedback
Anyone with an interest in Todd Mall and the town centre are encouraged to visit the project website and share their initial ideas.
“I’m really excited to hear from local business owners and operators and encourage them to complete our online business needs survey, developed by our colleague and main street management guru David West.
“It will be interesting to see how the business needs in Alice Springs compare to those of other regional cities we have surveyed over the last three years.”
Next steps
The Jensen PLUS team return to Alice Springs soon.
“We are planning a co-design workshop in Alice Springs for mid to late September where we aim to collaboratively develop options with the community for these important community spaces.”
