In 2016 Jensen PLUS assisted Defence Housing Australia’s (DHA) successful tender for the site by providing a master plan and planning advice to inform the feasibility study. In 2018, Jensen PLUS was then engaged by DHA to provide comprehensive landscape architecture services including concept design, detailed design, documentation, and contract administration for the development of 186 homes and a new reserve.
The project has been split into three stages to facilitate its implementation. Stage 1 comprises a section of the streetscape and a reserve, and construction of the open space started in mid 2022. The design approach was holistic and included close collaboration with hydraulic engineers.
This allowed for the development of stormwater structures to create a functional and aesthetic basin while also providing an ecological benefit and allowing community utility within the open space. Mature trees were retained, bringing immediate and valuable contributions to design character and ecological responsiveness.
A new play space within the reserve includes elements of nature play and was designed to be accessible to all abilities and ages, and encourage use and exercise for all community members. It includes shelter seating, picnic tables and BBQs. The streetscape design aims to improve connectivity and encourage walking by providing additional shade and greening.
