Jensen PLUS led a multi-disciplinary team in a major project to master plan for growth in tourism and housing at Jindabyne and the Snowy Mountains’ ski resorts of Thredbo, Perisher and Charlotte Pass.
Challenges included growing summer tourism to address major seasonal imbalances, mitigating climate change risks to the winter economy, and balancing development and visitation with the sensitive alpine environments of Kosciuszko National Park (KNP).
An important element to plans for Jindabyne was structure planning of eight future growth areas, at Jindabyne town centre, as well as urban expansion areas to the east and west of town.
Detailed structure plans were developed by Jensen PLUS to guide land uses, access and connectivity, green infrastructure areas, and other design elements.
Plans within Kosciuszko National Park and around Lake Jindabyne included new tourism-focussed projects as well as public realm and transport strategies.
The project adopted an series of online and in person ‘Enquiry by Design’ workshops, adapted due to Covid-19 restrictions, where growth projections (visitor and population) and technical inputs were interrogated into clear proposals and strategies.
In this extensive project we prepared a range of plans, reports and design frameworks for town and resort development, using clear and engaging presentation methods.
